This is an important question as most kids are too busy to complete their studies, let alone the homework! Children are engaged in extracurricular activities. They also have frequent test preparations which don’t allow them to spare time for homework. In the case of projects, it is normally seen that 90% of the project work is executed by parents or elder siblings. Strangely, nowadays some specialized professionals earn by completing children’s projects. The purpose behind homework and projects dies in such a case.
Despite all the irrelevant preoccupations, homework should be an integral part of a student’s daily schedule.
Self-Study and success
It’s the only time when the child spends alone time with his studies. He has an opportunity to study the topics, understand them, analyze them, practice, and thus be thorough in the knowledge of the topic. He becomes aware of his shortcomings in understanding the topic, which could be clarified through discussion with the teacher.
Confidence building
When a child does his project or homework through research and hard work, he gains a lot of confidence as he is the one who has accomplished the task on his own. This confidence takes him a long way to enhancing his academic success and a bright future.
Inculcates discipline
A regular time-based schedule ensures inculcating discipline in the child. This keeps him away from unnecessary distractions and his time gets productively occupied.
Bond with parents
If Parents take an active interest in a child’s day-to-day study matters, they can exactly gauge their child’s hitches in academics, and his shortcomings in the topics explained by the teacher. Thus the problem could be addressed and resolved at the earliest in consultation with the teacher. Motivating, positive, and transparent communication between children and parents can lead to academic growth during homework time. Relevant stories can be shared by parents to instill values and morals in their children, during this hour. A lifetime positive bond can be initiated between parent and child in this way.
Development of a positive habit
When a child spends his regular schedule with his studies, it forms a positive habit, thus avoiding distractions to any other things. This habit develops skills of researching, problem-solving, punctuality, decision-making, hard work, determination, courage, and taking initiative thus ensuring whooping success in whichever career he builds.
Time management
As a popular saying goes “If you set your completion target in a day, it gets over in a day, if you set it to be completed in a month, it gets completed in a month!”
When a child is bound to do his homework within a said time limit, he learns to manage his time, learns to plan his day’s work ahead of time, produces quality work, and learns to control his temptations. Thus the distractions are curbed and the child learns to devise ways and means to accomplish his targets.
High self-esteem
Positive, high self-esteem goes a long way in ensuring a child’s success in all endeavors as an adult too. This enables the child to take quick and right decisions which is an important trait.
Hence, it would be great if teachers and parents provide little assistance and guidance, but encouraged the child to independently conduct the projects and assignments.
Care should be taken to not burden the child with excessive assignments and cumbersome projects. Half an hour to forty-five minutes is apt to spend on projects and assignments.
Let’s make our kids independent and help them in their all-rounded development!
Thank you!
